*Repurpose – to change (something) so that it can be used for a different purpose.
We’ve all heard the saying “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”, but for some of us, it’s more than just a saying. Out of the broken pieces and misfit furniture, a whole new generation of re-purposers has emerged.
If you look beyond the broken drawers and missing pieces, you might see something completely different. Dressers for example, can be transformed and re-purposed in many different ways, and can be used for much more than holding clothes. Imagine a nice bookcase with a drawer for extra storage or a kitchen island that the neighbors will envy. Maybe even a unique piece to hold that great big TV your spouse brought home.
If you’re even a little handy, you can use one of the many DIY tutorials online that will show you things like, how to put a sink in top of a dresser to create a bathroom vanity and how to retrofit drawers to make room for the water supply.
Next time you come across a less than desirable or “in need of rescue” furniture piece, try to look beyond it’s faults and see the beauty that’s waiting to be discovered. You just might find that you too, are a next generation re-purposer.
